By default, there are three CIFS shares setup on any 7-Mode NetApp filer, and out of the box they do not require configuration:
Often times, however—and this is especially true if you are a storage admin and find yourself taking over an existing environment—someone has gone in an deleted the default shares for whatever reason (I can think about about five legitimate reasons and dozens of illegitimate ones). Now, you need to restore them. How do you do that?
First off, the bad news: there is no magic "restore to default" button (though wouldn't that be nice). But the good news is that restoring the CIFS shares is über-easy from the command line. Here are the commands to restore each:
From there, the easiest thing to do is use System Manager to adjust the permissions: remove the "Everyone" group from the two administrative shares, and add the Administrators group with Full Control to the same.
Boom! Another task completed. Feel free to celebrate.
